Found over sandy or muddy bottoms of coastal inshore waters (Ref. 35849, 47581). Feeds mainly on small fishes, crustaceans and polychaetes (Ref. 3424). Forms schools (Ref. 47581). Larger specimens marketed fresh or dried-salted but most of the catch made into fishmeal or discarded (Ref. 47581).
