Espinhos dorsais (total) : 7 - 8; Raios dorsais (total) : 9 - 10; Espinhos anais: 3; Raios anais : 8 - 9. Cheek scales in 2 rows. Lateral line strongly curved midway and runs long with a silvery mid-lateral band. Lower margin of interoperculum with a single spine.
Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal; Cross section: compressed.
Adults occur in brackish mangrove estuaries and lower reaches of freshwater streams (Ref. 2847, 37816). Probably feed on small insects, crustaceans and other invertebrates. Not seen in markets (Ref. 12693).
