Taggstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt) : 6 - 7; Mjukstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt) : 26 - 28; Taggstrålar i analfenan: 2; Mjukstrålar i analfenan: 26 - 28. Body elongate, higher and more bluish than N. lopezi. Forehead without rostral prominence even in adults. Two small peduncular plates each with a sharp, approximately semicircular, laterally projecting keel. caudal fin emarginate without a filament. Reaches 46 cm SL.
