Etymology: Heteroclinus: Greek, heteros = other + Greek, klinein, kline = sloping and bed, due to the four apophyses of sphenoid bone (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: This is not a direct eponym as the species and genus are named after the kelp Ecklonia in which they tend to live. The kelp was named after Christian Friedrich Ecklon (1795–1868) a Danish botanical collector. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
