Etymology: Silhouettea: Named by Smith (1959) for the type locality, the island of Silhouette in the Seychelles (Ref. 78591:297).

Indo-West Pacific: offshore islands in the western Indian Ocean and from Bazaruto, Mozambique northward. Also known from Western Australia (Ref. 49596) and Japan (Ref. 559).

الأشواك الظهرية (المجموع) : 7; الأشعة الظهرية الناعمة (المجموع) : 11; شوكة شرجية: 1; أشعه شرجية لينه: 13. Yellowish in color, with white saddles and faint brown spots above; anal fin with dusky tips; chin black (Ref. 2798).
Sand-dweller, occurs in areas where freshwater streams ran dead in beach sand (Ref. 4343). Generally found with Kraemeria samoensis Steindachner, 1906. Rarely in brackish water (Ref. 559).
