Etymology: Isorineloricaria: Greek, isos = equal + Greek, rhinos = nose + Latin, lorica, loricare = cuirass of corslet of leather; 1706 (Ref. 45335); acuarius: Name from Latin 'acuarius' for needle maker; referring to the numerous hypertrophied
odontodes found on breeding males, which can make study of these fishes difficult; noun in apposition.

The holotype was collected on a sandy run with moderate flow, in Rio Portuguesa . It was a nuptial male with breeding odontodes, suggesting that January is within the time of spawning as was suggested for A. ammophilus. It appears to be restricted to white waters (Ref. 129253).
