Etymology: Engyprosopon: Greek, eggys = nearly + Greek,prosopon = a face (Ref. 45335);  keliaoense: Name from Chinese 蚵寮 (Ke Liao), meaning oyster hut; referring to its type locality which is a small village that raised oysters and collected fishes for living since century ago..

Dorsal soft rays (total): 81 - 84; Anal soft rays: 62 - 63; Vertebrae: 34. This species is distinguished by the following: a pair of black spots on the caudal fin; small upper and lower eyes (3.48-3.77 in HL); both sexes with narrow interorbital width (5.96-9.78 in HL), and a short pectoral fin on the ocular side (1.25-1.43 in HL) (Ref. 127473).
