Etymology: Chlorophthalmus: Greek, chloros = green + Greek, ophthlamos = eye (Ref. 45335);  vityazi: 'vityazi', i.e., named in honor of the research vessel Vityaz (Ref. 95095).

Characterized by having no hump before dorsal fin, with small teeth on the outmost patches of the lower jaw small, and 5 scale rows above the lateral line; no teeth on tongue; snout length in horizontal orbit diameter 1.2; distance anus to anal-fin origin 28.1-31.0; lower-jaw symphysis without projections (Ref. 123109).
