Inhabits the shallow littoral zone, particularly in the vicinity of emergent vegetation (Ref. 4983). Less commonly found in the water lily zone, over exposed sandy beaches and at the margin of papyrus swamps. Has often been collected and seen around rock foundations of piers. Feeds mainly on diatoms (Melosira, Surirella, Gomphonema, Rhopalodia, Navicula, and Cyclotella) (Ref. 558).
