Spine dorsali (totale) : 4 - 6; Raggi dorsali molli (totale) : 11 - 14; Spine anali: 1; Raggi anali molli: 18 - 22. Melanotaenia wokamensis is distinguished by the following combination of characters: IV-VI-I,11-14 dorsal-fin rays; I,18-22 anal-fin rays; 12-14 (usually 13) pectoral-fin rays; 33-35 (rarely 35) scales on lateral line, 14-16 predorsal scales; 11-17 cheek scales; 15-17 total gill rakers on first arch; greatest body depth of adult male 34.4 % SL; color in life generally light blue on back with metallic reflections; dark blue midlateral stripe (1-2 scales wide), bordered with bold, relatively broad reddish to orange stripes; ventral portion of body greyish-white except bold dark-blue margins on scales above anal fin and large, bright blue patch just behind and below pectoral-fin base; second dorsal and anal fins bluish with broad, reddish outer margin; caudal fin semitranslucent reddish (Ref. 110723).

Inhabits streams that are typically narrow (about 3-5 m average width) limestone channels flowing through rainforest. Most common in deeper pools up to 1.5-2.0 m depth below the numerous cascades and small waterfalls (Ref. 110723).
