Africa: Lake Victoria. This species has been found in relatively few localities and only in the Uganda waters of the lake (Ref. 558).

Inhabits areas with firm substrate (sand and rock) (Ref. 4983). Gut contents showed that this species preys on a variety of invertebrate animals and possibly even small fish. Predominant food organisms were insects (esp. dipterous larvae but also Ephemeroptera & Trichoptera larvae). The non-insect food were fish, oligochaete worms, prawns, plant tissue, ostracods, and fragments of lamellibranchs & gastropod shells (Ref. 558).
