Chiavi di identificazione | Morfologia | Morfometria
Vertebre: 27. This species is distinguished from its congeners having the bifid neural spines of vertebra 10-12 expanded distally (vs. bifid neural spines progressively pointed distally); it is further distinguished from all congeners, except H. brevirostratum, by having its preopercle constricted medially (vs. preopercle without constriction) and presence of canal in preopercle, it is semicircular, and located posterior to the preopercle constriction (Ref. 84367).
Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274)

50 = 0.5001 [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00759 (0.00337 - 0.01709), b=3.12 (2.93 - 3.31), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref.
