Spine dorsali (totale) : 20 - 22; Raggi dorsali molli (totale) : 50 - 55; Spine anali: 3; Raggi anali molli: 49 - 51; Vertebre: 72 - 74. Belongs to the Macrognathus aculeatus species group but can be distinguished from all other species of this group by the following combination of characters: 8-10 rostral tooth plates; 20-22 dorsal-fin spines; and ocelli along dorsal fin developed as small irregularly arranged dark spots or absent (Ref. 83418).
