Etymology: Oreoglanis: Greek, oreos = mountain+Greek, glanis = Latin, aurum = gold + Greek, glanis = a fish that can eat the bait without touching the hook; a cat fish (Ref. 45335);  sudarai: Named for the late Surapol Sudara, a Thai marine biologist who was prominent in raising awareness in conservation of aquatic environments in Thailand..

Dorsale stekels (totaal) : 0; Dorsale zachte stralen (totaal) : 6 - 7; Anale zachte stralen: 5 - 6; Wervels: 39 - 40. Belongs to the Oreoglanis siamensis species group as it possesses a distinct median notch on the posterior margin of the lower lip. Can be distinguished from other members of the genus in having a combination of the following characters: long nasal barbel reaching to anterior orbital margin, maxillary barbel with pointed tip, tip of pectoral fin not reaching pelvic-fin origin, caudal peduncle length 16.7-22.6 % SL, eye diameter 9.8-14.3 % HL, and an emarginate caudal fin (Ref. 83406).
