Etymology: Gunterichthys: Because of Albert C. L. G. Günther, German ichthyologist, 1830-1914 (Ref. 45335); bussingi: Named after William A. Bussing.
Eponymy: Dr Gordon Gunter (1909–1998) was a marine biologist. [...] William ‘Bill’ A. Diagnosis: Pointed snout; distinct large eyes, 2.2-2.5% SL; head with scale-band on cheek; posterior infraorbital pores 3; posterior nostril large, about half of eye diameter; rays in dorsal fin 79-81, anal 56-58, caudal 16; otolith with length to height ratio 2.5 and partly fused colliculi.
