Etymology: Allotoca: Greek, allos = other + Greek, tokos = birth (Ref. 45335). The transliterated Latin terminal part of the compound name ('tocus') was changed to 'toca', thus the genus is feminine (Ref. 35111);  zacapuensis: Named for its known distribution, the basin Lagoon de Zacapu (Ref. 42981).

Rückenflossenstacheln (insgesamt) : 0; Rückenflossenweichstrahlen (insgesamt) : 18 - 20; Afterflossenstacheln: 0; Afterflossenweichstrahlen: 12 - 13; Wirbelzahl: 30 - 32. Abdomopodium rays 2-7 thickened basally and curved anteriorly; series of 10-14 dark brown pigmented v-shaped vertical bars along sides; adult males with dark brown area surrounding about and in front of genital region; dark brown abdominal pigmentation (Ref. 42981).
