Etymology: Filimanus: Latin, filum = thread + latin, manus = hand (Ref. 45335);  similis: From the Latin similis, meaning similar, in reference to the considerable similarity to Filimanus heptadactyla and the other species of Filimanus with shorter pectoral filaments (Ref. 39607).

背的軟條 (總數) : 11 - 13; 臀鰭軟條: 10 - 12. Distinguished by having seven pectoral filaments, not reaching midpoint of anal fin; depth of posterior margin of maxilla less than eye diameter; snout pointed; and body in life, usually brown above and golden or silvery below.
