Distinguished from C. kaiei by having the abdomen lightly colored, caudal fin without light bands, anal fin I,4, caudal peduncle strongly compressed, and 5 plates below adpressed pectoral fin spine. Generic characteristics: caudal fin 1, 14, 1; adipose fin replaced by low elongate postdorsal ridge formed by series of raised median unpaired plates contiguous with dorsal procurrent caudal fin spines.
