Occurs in deep water. Spawns only around margin of Pyramid Lake in Nevada, USA but formerly made spectacular spawning runs up Truckee River in Nevada, USA. Populations were subject to intensive fishing in the 19th and early 20th century; habitats have been greatly altered by water development projects; species is now endangered (Ref. 47054).
