Etymology: Marcusenius: Becasue of J. Marcusen, author of "Zur Phauna des Schwarzen Meeres", 1867; ichthyologist.

Affinities: M. meronai. Relatively close to M. furcidens which is found in the same geographic setting in Côte d'Ivoire. A fractional spawner (Ref. 10605; 10606).
