背棘 (總數) : 10 - 13; 背的軟條 (總數) : 14 - 16; 臀棘: 3; 臀鰭軟條: 13 - 15. Silvery with purple tinge. Fins grayish.
銀色的有紫色的淡色。 鰭淺灰色的。

Occurs in small schools in areas with muddy substrates on the continental shelf and upper slope. Feeds mainly on zooplankton. Appears to be pelagic at night and demersal by day and may migrate seasonally. Marketed fresh or dried-salted (Ref. 3300).
