Short description Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal soft rays (total): 11 - 12; Anal soft rays: 11 - 12. In both sexes, specially in females, are peculiar combination of speckled and barred sides, Body shape rhombic; snout acute. Dorsal fin of female overlaid by melanophores, with 2 - 3 distal and 2 - 3 basal spots, parallel to body, seldom with hints of posterior ocellus as seen in pupfishes. Pectoral fins reach middle of dorsal fin base when depressed; cover most of the pelvic length. Male anal fin is pointed, nearly reaching caudal base; caudal band narrower than eye. Mouth slightly higher on profile than in C. variegatus complex. Caudal peduncle short, 20.7 - 25.9% SL (Ref. 39345).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)
