Dorsal spines (total): 87 - 90; Dorsal soft rays (total): 0; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 50 - 53. Caudal small; pectorals ovoid; pelvic fins minute (Ref. 6885). Color in life variable, magenta and silver; dark marks at base of dorsal fin in about 15 light targets, and vague darker inverted U's on lower part of body; head somewhat darker above with a light mark running back from eye (Ref. 6885).
Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); Found in rocky areas (Ref. 2850); entirely subtidal (Ref. 48978).
