Etymology: Galeus: galeos, a small shark or dogfish according to Aristotle and others. (See ETYFish);  mincaronei: In honor of ichthyologist Michael Maia Mincarone (b. 1971), for his “extensive work and tireless dedication” as collections manager of the Museu Oceanográfico do Vale do Itajaí (Brazil). Diagnosis: Distinguished by the following characters (vs. Galeus antillensis): shorter prepectoral length 16.1%-18.6% (vs. 19.4-21.8%); smaller pectoral anterior margin (8.9-10.1% (vs. 10.2-12.7%); smaller pectoral posterior margin 7.4-8.5% (vs. 8.8-11.6%); and fewer number of diplospondylous vertebrae 35-36, n=3 (vs. 39-78, n=4) (Ref. 56495).

The species inhabits deep-reefs in the shelf break and on the continental slope, and is often found in depths greater than 400 meters, with gorgonians, hard corals, tube sponges, crinoids, ophiuroids, and a great number of the sympatric scyliorhinid shark Scyliorhinus haeckelii (Ref. 56495). Minimum depth from Ref. 58018.
