Dorsal spines (total): 2; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 4. Distinguished from C. kaiei by having the abdomen lightly colored, caudal fin without light bands, anal fin I,4, caudal peduncle strongly compressed, and 5 plates below adpressed pectoral fin spine. Generic characteristics: caudal fin 1, 14, 1; adipose fin replaced by low elongate postdorsal ridge formed by series of raised median unpaired plates contiguous with dorsal procurrent caudal fin spines.
