Lives in the shallow, rocky habitat; extremely shy; usually found in groups; feeds on algae and has long digestive tract (Ref. 46829). Feeds by scraping rock biocover (Ref. 6770, 46829). Females brood their young in the mouth (Ref. 46829, 86760).
Larvae of up to 3.17 cm TL are mouthbrooded by female parent 14.3 cm SL long (Ref. 86760).
