Etymology: Characidium: Diminutive of Charax, -akos = a fish without identification (Ref. 45335); tupi: Name 'tupi' in honor of Tupi, as a legendary character from the Tupi-Guarani mythology, a root to many indigenous nations in Brazil, and an old language.
