Etymology: Kneria: From Kner, that studied fishes in the Imperial Museum of Vienna, with Jean Natterer (1817) (Ref. 45335); maxi: Name 'maxi' in honor of Professor Max Poll (1908-1991), a Belgian ichthyologist, for his extensive studies in African ichthyology and on the genus.
