Etymology: Cambeva: Probably derived from the Tupi-Guarani, is a popular name for trichomycterid fishes in southern and south-eastern Brazil (Ref. 119381); capitoliensis: Name 'capitoliensis' from the type locality of the species, Município de Capitolio, southeastern Brazil.

the autopalatine sinuous; sesamoid supraorbital without a lateral projection; anterior portion of the mesethmoid just posterior to cornu base relatively narrow; parurohyal foramen rudimentary or lacking; posterior process of the parurohyal relatively short, less than half lateral process; and S4 pore about equidistant from S3 and S6 pores (Ref 138050).
