Etymology: Knodus: Greek, knodon, -ontos = knife, sword (Ref. 45335); borari: Name 'borari' in honor of Boraris, the indigenous group inhabiting the lower Rio Tapajos. A noun of apposition.

Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 8; Rayons mous anaux: 17 - 19; Vertèbres: 35. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: presence of only conical to tricuspid teeth in the inner pre maxillary row and dentary teeth; short maxilla, not exceeding the anterior margin of the orbit in a vertical plane; presence of a black blotch at the base of caudal fin and i,6,i pelvic-fin rays; 6 scales between dorsal-fin origin and lateral line; 13-14 circumpeduncular scales; and short snout(19.6%-22.5%LH) (Ref. 137788).
