This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: body naked, scales absent, with skin pigmentation; eyes normal, diameter 7-11% of HL, interorbital width 22-31% of HL; dorsal fin distal margin truncated; pelvic-fin tip not reaching to anus; tip of pectoral-fin not reaching to pelvic fin origin; anterior and posterior nostrils closely set, anterior nostril elongated to a barbel-like tip; tip of outrostral barbel extending backward to anterior margin of the eye; lateral line complete; dorsal-fin rays iv-7-8, pectoral-fin rays i-11, pelvic-fin rays ii-7, anal-fin rays iii-5, 16 branched caudal-fin rays; and total vertebrae 39 (Ref. 137681).
