Depth range: 0-5 m on rocky bottoms. Usually under rocks; rarely under algal fronds. A specialized feeder on amphipods, mainly Gondogeneia antarctica. Feed on small crustaceans and common in littoral of all sub-Antarctic islands (Ref. 42041). Iteroparous and devotes a lot of time to parental care (Ref. 5191). Larval pelagic phase is long (Ref. 71843).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5010   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00537 (0.00211 - 0.01367), b=3.10 (2.88 - 3.32), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.3   ±0.53 se; based on food items.
Generation time: 4.4 ( na - na) years. Estimated as median ln(3)/K based on 1 growth studies.
Resilienza (Ref. 120179):  Medio, tempo minimo di raddoppiamento della popolazione 1.4 - 4.4 anni (Fec = 400).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Moderate vulnerability (36 of 100).
Nutrients (Ref. 124155):  Calcium = 72.6 [35.0, 181.3] mg/100g; Iron = 0.52 [0.21, 1.12] mg/100g; Protein = 16.9 [15.9, 18.0] %; Omega3 = 0.249 [0.109, 0.545] g/100g; Selenium = 8.44 [2.82, 22.02] μg/100g; VitaminA = 31.7 [5.9, 175.2] μg/100g; Zinc = 0.782 [0.483, 1.222] mg/100g (wet weight);
