Vértebras: 191 - 194. This species of the Gymnothorax prolatus group is distinguished by the following characters: vertebrae in predorsal 6-7, preanal 83-91, total 191-194, preanal length 48.2-51.8% TL, maxillary teeth are biserial anteriorly and uniserial posteriorly, intermaxillary teeth uniserial (Ref. 129614).
Collected by bottom trawl with shallow demersal fishes, suggesting that the species lives at less
than 100 meters (Ref. 129614).
