This species which belongs to the group with unilobed proboscis, can be distinguished by having scales on chest; with a black spot at the upper angle of gill opening; with five stripes on the body; no black spot at dorsal fin base; no indistinct black spots at the base of branched dorsal fin rays; presence of a black band at the middle of caudal fin; unbranched dorsal fin rays 2; lateral line scales 33-34; caudal fin with black band in the middle; transverse scale rows above lateral line 3 ½; circumpeduncular scales 12 (Ref, 130913).
