Etymology: Rhinolepadichthys: The suffix 'rhino', meaning nose, in combination with the genus Lepadichthys, refers to the pointed snout in members of this genus, which distinguishes the new genus from Lepadichthys (sensu stricto).;  geminus: Name from Latin 'geminus' meaning 'twin' or 'double'” referring to the two yellow stripes under the abdomen and its close morphological similarity to L. lineatus, with which it had previously been identified..

Raggi dorsali molli (totale) : 10 - 11; Raggi anali molli: 9 - 10. This species is distinguished by the following characters: body slender, its depth 12.7-16.1 (mean 14.4) % SL; adhesive disc is circular, its length 15.0-18.7 (16.8) and with 12.9-15.9 (14.4) % SL, ratio of length to width 1.03-1.25; anus posteriorly positioned, pre-anus length and disc to anus length 66.7-72.0 (68.9) and 25.7-31.6 (28.9) % SL, respectively; snout tip directed upward, usually horizontally level with lower margin of eye lens (lateral view); abdomen with a yellow stripe on either side of ventral midline; dorsal and lateral surfaces of body with yellow dots (sometimes indistinct and lateral dots absent), forming c. three to five longitudinal rows and a single broken line, respectively (Ref. 129525).
