This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: massive head with a short snout; eyes relatively large, horizontally oval, its length 32.2% head length; thin body with a relatively long trunk 40% body length (BDL), deciduous skin; preopercular and oral lateral line canals sharing a common branch; posterior margin of the pectoral fins slightly convex; long dorsal spine 27% BDL, longer than the first dorsal fin; uniformly dark brown (Ref. 130779).
