This species is distinguished by the following characters: tail 53% of TL; snout and tail tip are pointed; chin in advance of the snout tip; dorsal fin arising above gill opening; median fins are low; no pectoral fin; eye moderate, 10.8 in head and behind middle of upper jaw; cephalic pores are small but apparent, preopercular 3, supratemporal 3; teeth small, conical, numerous and densely packed on jaws, irregularly biserial on vomer. Colouration: yellowish-tan overlain with 2 rows of 70-75 eye-sized brown spots; vertebral formula 9/82/186 (Ref. 129451).
