Dorsal spines (total): 10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14 - 15; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 7; Vertebrae: 26. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: D X,14-15, rarely X,14; pectoral rays 15, rarely 14; lateral line complete with 33-37 tubed scales; lower edge of preopercl without antrorse serrations; scales with basal cteni; melanophores on caudal peduncle form a saddle that extends ventrally to about 1-2 scale rows beneath lateral line scales (Ref. 123579).
Uncommon deepwater fish. Found over rock or sand bottoms (Refs. 559 and 9137).
