Mjukstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt) : 11 - 13. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: lateral line line scales 61-67; D 11-13; pectoral-fin rays 11-13; body depth 16.0-22.2% SL; head length 30.1-33.7% SL (Ref. 126777).

Lake Kalimpa’a, where the species was collected, is characterized by calm water with sandy and muddy substrate, the vegetation was dominated by the weed Phragmites karka (Cyperales: Poaceae) and reported depth is about 11 meters with and water temperature 22 °C with pH 5–6.5 and DO 13.9 Mg/L, when measured during daytime. Other species present in the lake were introduced African tilapia Oreochromis sp., the snakeskin gourami Trichopodus pectoralis, and a native eel Anguilla species. This species is a pelvic-brooder, where females carry an egg cluster until hatching (Ref. 126777).
