Radios blandos dorsales (total) : 490; Radios blandos anales: 280; Vértebra: 160. This species is distinguished by the following characters: dorsal-fin origin anterior to the gill opening; presence of pterygoid teeth; body depth at gill opening 28-40% of HL; vertebrae, preanal 59-66 (mean 63), total 164-175 (mean 168.9); preanal lateral-line pores 59-64 (mean 61). Colour in life whitish to pale yellow with dense, small, round, orange-brown to dark-brown spots (Ref. 121836).

This species is currently known only from the type locality, about 80 km southwest of the town of Kaimana, West Papua Province, Indonesia. The type specimens were obtained from two separate colonies in 13-25 m, wherein each occupy about 50-100 sq. m and containing approximately 50-100 eels. The gently sloped bottom consisted of clean white sand and was more than 200 m from the nearest reef habitat (Ref. 121836).
