Raggi dorsali molli (totale) : 12 - 14; Raggi anali molli: 15 - 18; Vertebre: 33 - 35. Devario monticola differs from all its congeners in Sri Lankan by the combination of following characters: body depth 26-29 %SL; snout length equal to or greater than eye diameter; color pattern consisting of 4 or 5 dark, irregular, vertical bars restricted to anterior half of body; P-1 stripe narrower than P stripe, originating level with P stripe, extending to origin of caudal peduncle; 13-19 predorsal scales; dorsal fin with 9½-11½ branched rays, anal fin with 2½-15½ branched rays; a process on first infraorbital; presence of danionin notch; dorso-hypural distance when carried forward falling well short of posterior border of eye; and pectoral fin, when adpressed, not reaching origin of pelvic fin (Ref. 118056).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00891 (0.00371 - 0.02139), b=3.05 (2.85 - 3.25), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.0   ±0.4 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilienza (Ref. 120179):  Alto, tempo minimo di raddoppiamento della popolazione meno di 15 mesi (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
