Rückenflossenstacheln (insgesamt) : 4 - 7; Rückenflossenweichstrahlen (insgesamt) : 8 - 12; Afterflossenstacheln: 1; Afterflossenweichstrahlen: 18 - 26. This species is distinguished and differs from L. sicculus by the following characters: Labidesthes vanhyningi have the anterolateral processes of the posttemporals shorter than width of the base (vs. L. sicculus having the processes longer than width of base); with a midlateral stripe that does not taper, usually expanding, to insertion of pectoral fin in advance of the first dorsal-fin (vs. tapering to insertion of pectoral fin in advance of first dorsal fin); a ratio of thoracic length to abdominal length less than 2 (vs. greater than 2) (Ref. 104856).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.7500   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00513 (0.00229 - 0.01150), b=3.08 (2.89 - 3.27), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.1   ±0.2 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Widerstandsfähigkeit (Ref. 120179):  hoch, Verdopplung der Population dauert weniger als 15 Monate. (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
