Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 9 - 10. Paracanthocobitis adelaideae is distinguished from all other congeners by the combination of the following characters: complete lateral line; presence of axillary pelvic lobe; male with suborbital flap; 9 1/2 -10 1/2 dorsal-fin rays; dark dorsal saddles connected to large squarish blotches on side along and below lateral line; black caudal spot irregularly shaped, at dorsal margin of caudal peduncle; and wide head (interorbital 33.3% of HL) (Ref. 102002).
