Etymology: Eviota: No etymology given, suggested by Christopher Scharpt: from Latin 'eu' for 'true' and 'iota' for anything very small, in combination 'truly very small' referring to it as being the smallest vertebrate at the time it has benn described by Jenkins (thus, making the suggestion by Scharpt plausible.;  pamae: Named for Pamela Scott Rorke..

Taggstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt) : 7; Mjukstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt) : 8 - 9; Taggstrålar i analfenan: 1; Mjukstrålar i analfenan: 8 - 9. This species is distinguished by the following characters: unbranched pectoral-fin rays; dorsal-fin spines filamentous in male with third spine longest; 7-8 longest caudal-fin rays filamentous in male; well developed 5th pelvic-fin ray, 55-70 % length of fourth ray (average 63 %); cephalic sensory pore system lacking the IT and the PITO pores, the AITO pore single and very large; when alive, orange pink with bright yellow midlateral stripe, yellow mid-dorsal snout stripe, and single rounded dark spot on lower portion of caudal-fin base (Ref. 93848).

Found common at depths between about 13 and 20 m, on sheltered reef slopes where it formed aggregations of up to 10-30 individuals, among live and dead corals (predominantly tabulate acroporids), and in shady crevices (93848).
