背鰭 (合計) : 8 - 9; 臀鰭: 6 - 7. Distinguished by the following characters: pectoral fins with six branched rays; pectoral-fin ray prolonged as a filament; presence of pelvic fins; tip of nasal barbels extending to posterior border of opercular plate of odontodes; presence of a large foramen for ramus lateralis accessorius facialis, visible in dorsal view, in the parietosupraoccipital bone; transverse and straight border between the parietosupraoccipital and frontal bones; body covered with spots that seldom attain eye diameter; pelvic-fin origin placed one or two ocular diameters anterior to dorsal-fin origin; absence of spots fused as elongated marks on dorsum or flank (Ref. 90333).

Occurs in streams with depth and temperature varying from 13 to 44 cm and from 14 to 19°C. Preys on tadpoles of Scinax gr. catharinae under laboratory conditions (Ref. 90333).
