Asia: endemic to Lake Tazawa in Akita Prefecture, Japan. Believed to have become extinct since 1940. Recently discovered in 2010 from Lake Saiko, Yamanashi Prefecture, one of the lakes where eyed eggs of this species were introduced in 1935.
