Etymology: Alburnoides: From the city of Al Bura, where the fish was known + particle Greek, oides = similar (Ref. 45335)devolli: Named for its type locality, the Devoll River.

Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 12; Rayons mous anaux: 15 - 17; Vertèbres: 40 - 41. Distinguished from all its congeners by the combination of the following characters: anal fin with 11½-13½ branched rays; 44-48 large scales on the total pored lateral line; total vertebrae usually 40 (20+20); shallow caudal peduncle (depth 35-43% body depth at dorsal fin origin); usually mostly or completely scaled ventral keel; mouth with a straight and upturned cleft; interorbital width 1.1-1.4 times the eye diameter; completely ossified preethmoid; and narrow, very deeply indented anterior tip of the urohyal, a unique feature among species of Alburnoides from western Europe (Ref. 85842).
