This species is distinct with the following set of characters: D V-VII,43-46; A I,39-41; lateral line scales 57-60; gill rakers 4-6+17-21; vertebrae 55; head length (HL) 18-20% SL; snout length 25-31% HL; infraorbital and supraorbital canals separated anterior to eye; elongated dorsal fin spines in males 4-6; caudal fin in males with 2 black stripes (Ref. 84215).
