Dorsal soft rays (total): 78 - 84; Anal soft rays: 64 - 69; Vertebrae: 45 - 46. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: ocular-side pigmentation pattern with a series of white spots and blotches without accompanying crossbands (the only member of this genus with this feature); a scaleless, well-developed pectoral fin on the ocular side; the ocular-side pectoral fin having the second dorsal-most ray longer than the first fin ray (Ref. 55726).
