Etymology: Rasbora: Rasbora, an Indian word for a fish, also used in Malay peninsula; patrickyapi: Named for Patrick Yap Boon Hiang, a freshwater fish enthusiast and exporter, who has generously donated fish materials for the author's research.
Eponymy: Patrick Yap Boon Hiang of Aquaculture Technologies of Singapore is a freshwater fish enthusiast and exporter, and a long-time supporter of the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research. He generously donated much fish material to help Tan’s research. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Found in shallow, slow-flowing swampy areas next to the flowing blackwater streams. Occurs in lowland peat swamps and degraded heath forest with a substrate made of a mixture of peat and silica sand (Ref. 82329).
